Across the United States many people are sentenced to periods of probation as an alternative to jail or prison time. Often times, they are made to take a drug test. If they have smoked marijuana, been around marijuana, or taken LEGAL cbd edibles and things of that sort, their test can show up as positive for thc and they will fail their drug test. The issue is that often times, the court system does not give these people on probation a long enough time for the thc to clear out of their system before they have to take their drug tests for their probation as it can take sometimes longer than 30 days for urine to be clean of thc. If a person fails their drug test for their first probation meeting, usually they now have certain stipulations in the terms of their probation to where it is even harder to successfully complete their probation sentence. I am making this petition in hopes of changing how the Justice system goes about drug testing when it comes to people having first time probation meetings and hoping that they reform their procedures on this testing to be able to give people that are put on probation enough time before they have to take a drug test to become clean of any traces of thc. This will impact many lives and will also help many people. Instead of them potentially going to prison or jail from the stipulations that were put on them from a failed drug test that they basically failed before they even took, this will give people hope and an actual chance to better themselves for the future instead of worrying because they did not have enough time to rid themselves of thc which is a legal substance in many states anyways.
