MOTHER SMUCKER GROWTH RESTRICTED BY COUNTY REGULATIONS
HELP FRIENDS! Amber's wonderful salsa business has grown at a rapid rate due to the great salsa & marinara she produces. In order to meet this demand, she needs a new larger work space. We own a building located in Crossroads Commercial zoning in Kent County. The county planning and zoning has refused to let us submit permits to build a commercial kitchen in the building. We would be allowed to operate a restaurant but cannot operate a stand along commercial kitchen to produce packaged goods.
The county commissioners proposed to the Planning and Zoning(P&Z) a simple text amendment to allow her to produce salsa in the building. BUT, P&Z has created a text amendment which requires many steps and much more cost than a small business can bear. They are requiring she goes through an arduous special exception approval process which will take at least 6 month and cost $20,000 plus just to obtain permits! P&Z will not guarantee the special exception will be approved, therefore the money spent could end up being wasted with no approvals.
This is no way to treat small business in Kent County. Please sign the petition to help a small business grow. She cannot afford this expense at start up and has to save as much as she can to purchase equipment and outfit the space to meet health department standards. No donations needed, just support of your vote.
