Why this petition matters

We are year 13 students from Macleans College who aim to lower the taxation rates in New Zealand. Tax rates in New Zealand are starting to get uncontrollably high and we are starting to see the effect of this through various means such as local  gas stations, super markets and etc. Recently the Labour Party has introduced a regional fuel tax on Auckland motorists. According to Autolife the price paid for the actual fuel itself is only around 60 cents per litre for petrol and 61 cents per litre for diesel. With shipping costs of around 4.1 cents, this brings the cost of petrol to 64.1 cents and diesel to 65.1 cents. From here the New Zealand government adds what they call national fuel taxes which comes to 66.48 cents per litre. The Labour Party also introduced new income tax where people that earn up to $14,000 pay 10.5% of their annual income to tax and people that earn more than $180,000 have to pay 39% to tax. This is an unnecessarily large amount hence why we are aiming to lower tax rates. The New Zealand government is not only doing this to gas but to other things as well.
