PHOENIX ARTS THEATRE ( website: http://www.phoenixartstheatre.com ) is a DIY art space located in Woolloongabba, an inner city suburb of Brisbane' CBD. It was established as a much needed venue for performing and visual arts to be displayed and to provide drug and alcohol free events for people of all ages with a focus on the teenage and young adults. There are very minimal venues located in Brisbane CBD which can cater to these kinds of events.
The hall, built in the late 1800's, is a historical building with a great atmosphere for all forms of arts to be displayed and caters a stage for performances. We have a venue permit through the Brisbane City Council and all aspects of safety and supervision are diligently monitored.
Some of the surrounding residents of the venue continuously complain about the sound expelled from our events, Although we have endeavoured to soundproof and keep patrons within our venue's property and greatly reduced the sound level to be within the local noise restriction levels.
One of the local residents arranged a petition and had it signed by several other local resident to the area. We are asking that you please show your support for our venue by signing our petition so that we can show our local council representative and the Lord Mayor of Brisbane city that is community art space is a necessary and strong cultural contributor to the local area, and a great benefit to both local and surrounding citizens.
