Community carers worked throughout the pandemic caring for the most vulnerable in society. They are often the only person that the vulnerable person sees on a daily basis. Many community carers cover a lot of miles a week , often in rural areas where petrol is more expensive. The petrol allowance is often less than 40p a mile and this has not changed for years. It is a low paid job now being supplemented by carers bearing the bulk of the cost in the rise in fuel. This is untenable for many of them and a lot of them are now considering whether or not they can afford to continue working in this field, doing a job they love. Please lets make the government either increase the fuel allowance and/or reduce significantly the duty that they add to the cost of fuel. This is an urgent matter.
