The community of Wirrimanu (Balgo) is located along the Tanami road, 260km south of Halls Creek and 90km from the Northern Territory border, making it one of the most remote communities in Australia.

At present, the community is only serviced by 3G phone and internet coverage, despite the neighboring communities of Mulan and Billiluna being upgraded to 4G in recent years. For this reason, the population of over 400 people in Wirrimanu struggle to remain to connected to family and friends with slow and unreliable internet speeds.

Conversations with Telstra have indicated Wirrimanu to be on the list to receive 4G, however the timeline is unclear. We call for Wirrimanu to be prioritised for improved phone and internet coverage by installing 4G capabilities at the earliest convenience.
