I would like to ask for your help and support in raising more awareness in helping disabled families with physical needs who face homelessness. Currently there’s not enough support out there or properties to offer. Disabled people are at a disadvantage due to not being able to manage or live like an able bodied person. They need adaptations and support in their everyday life. Living in temporary and overcrowded accommodation is taking away their independence. Why should disabled people have to suffer? Do they not already go through enough?

The reason for me supporting a petition like this is because for the first time in 43 years I have ended up homeless which was through no fault of my own. My husband and I currently have 5 children at home and one of those 5 has a rare joint and muscle condition called Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita (AMC). My daughter is affected in all four limbs so she cannot walk, stand, go to the toilet unaided, get a bath or feed herself. We have to physically help support her with everything she does. 

We have been in temporary accommodation for 9 months and was on a top floor room in a B&B for 6 weeks prior to this. Our flat we are in now is actually quite spacious for a 2 bedroom place but as there’s 7 of us you can imagine it’s very busy. 

My daughter requires a wet room and hoists. 

Councils cannot provide very much support for many families let alone disabled ones. So I am putting it to central government to spend more on actually providing homes suitable for disabled people. Give the funding to the councils and build suitable houses. Stop watching us suffer when the finances are available to assist. 

I would like you all to sign and follow this petition so I can help to support my family and families like mine to live the lives they deserve. Nobody asks for a disability and physical ones are being overlooked and shouldn’t be.
