We oppose the Cottonwood Golf Club in Rancho San Diego turning into a sand mine in the middle of such a beautiful residential community. Our goal is to stop San Diego County from approving the Major Use Permit for this proposed project.

On behalf of the Cottonwood Golf Club owner, Cottonwood Cajon Es, LLS, Greg Brown of New West Investment Group, Inc. applied for project permits for the Cottonwood Sand Mining Project through San Diego County Planning and Development Services on November 19, 2018. The project proposes to operate a sand mine and processing plant in the Jamacha Valley of the Sweetwater River for 10 years.

The project, if approved, will mine on 214 acres of the 280-acre property and will extract and process over 7 million tons of material during the 10-year period resulting in 5.7 million tons of marketable aggregate. Operations will start as early as 7am and large trucks will make at least 176 round trips daily Monday through Friday between 9am and 3:30pm. That will mean 27 heavy trucks will be coming or going on Willow Glen Drive every hour or at least one heavy truck will be going by every 2 minutes.

Community members and other concerned citizens need to know about the project and the many problems it will bring to surrounding communities if it is approved - problems including major truck traffic; safety concerns; health hazards; pollution of air, water and noise; destruction of visual open space; elimination of endangered animals and plant species; and, reduced property values.

Signing this petition tells San Diego County decision makers that you do not want them to approve a Major Use Permit that allows Cottonwood Sand Mine to operate. Let everyone know that we need their support and signature on this petition. For more information and updates, sign up on the Contact List at: https://www.StopCottonwoodSandMine.org
