As an educated and strong-minded young female living in the UK it still shocks me that diet teas and tablets are still for sale in high street stores such as Holland and Barrett and Boots.

As these are chemists and “health food shops” I still struggle to believe how easily they’re sold. The marketing and advertising on the tablets and teas preys on your own self-esteem and imperfections, I’m fed up with walking past them on my way to work and feel impulsed to purchase with no results.

I was in a vulnerable position the past year and found myself turning to diet pills and teas with no benefit except to those I purchased them off. I am an intelligent educated woman and still turned to diet pills because of the advertising and “Holland and Barrett” status.

I would like to see these teas and tablets branded with weight-loss abilities to be removed from the front of high street stores. I feel the negative mental impact of these far outweigh the benefits and just like cigarettes, should remain hidden from site of young people.
