Pharmacies should sell on e prescriptions only

Electronic prescription is planned to be implemented in Andhra Pradesh and should be followed in all other states.
All the doctors and pharmacists in the state should be integrated into an electronic system. The doctors will issue e-prescriptions with his or her digital signature, which, in turn, will be verified by the pharmacists concerned
Pharmacies should sell medicines only on electronic prescriptions from registered medical practitioners in the state
This will help in the following:
Reduce prescriptions by non registered practitioners and fake doctors
Reduce inappropriate sale and purchase of medications over the counter without proper prescription
Help reduce inappropriate use of antibiotics and thereby antibiotic resistance
Prescriptions would become more legible and thereby reduce confusion and drug dispensing errors
Would help to monitor drug reactions and spurious drugs
The patient can buy the drugs in any part of the country without necessarily needing to carry the prescription all the time
It is not an easy task but something that is inevitable for a proper healthcare system. In many developed countries, it is impossible to get a drug or antibiotic without a prescription.
Let us all encourage the Government to make the above positive change.
