Save THE ONLY Spina Bifida Adult Resource Team In New South Wales

This petition had 234 supporters

Due to the introduction of The National Disability Scheme (NDIS), The NSW Spina Bifida Adult Resource Team (which is funded through NSW Ministry of Health), host organisation Northcott is no longer a suitable fit as it changes its business module to adapt to the changes required by the NDIS.

While The Spina Bifida Collaborative works hard to try and work with health to find a new home for this VITAL service, those within the government need to ENSURE this VITAL service CONTINUES and in the right environment i.e. a health environment for a health service.

IT IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH, MR HAZZARD. Those of us who are in our adult years face enough daily struggles due to living with Spina Bifida. We NEED the team, which was funded by the NSW Ministry of Health in 2009, to support adults with Spina Bifida across NSW with aims to provide clinical consultation, education, support and preventative health strategies to adults with Spina Bifida to disappear. This service has 460+ registered clients. The team also attends all adult clinics (including regional clinics in Wagga Wagga and Port Macquarie) and supports not only the clients who attend these clinics but also the clinical teams who care for the clients.

DO NOT TURN A BLIND EYE TO THE FATE OF THIS SERVICE MR HAZZARD IN THINKING THAT NDIS WILL PICK UP THE SLACK! There is NO other team or service that would even come close to providing the service this team does! It requires specialists in the field and since Australia does very little research on the effects of Spina Bifida in adults, so the information collected by the team will have a HUGE IMPACT for generations to come! Do YOU want to be the minister who prevents this from happening? No? Then SUPPORT THIS SERVICE AND PUT IT BACK IN HEALTH.
