I am a qualified doctor, who came to UK in 2008, due to family responsibility as a single mother with a 3 year old I found it challenging to do my qualifying test in UK. and register into GMC. 

I felt bad that my medical skills did not come handy during the time of COVID, there are lot of people in the similar condition like me. Already living in UK and citizens of UK, who are wasting their abilities and knowledge. I believe, we should have a new approach and give a chance to all these doctors, by giving them crash course or  training so that we don't have to import staff when we already have potential staff. Something similar was done during the COVID pandemic, but the retired doctors were invited instead.

Considering, there is a shortage of doctors and other medical staff due to BREXIT. I believe instead of importing doctors or other medically qualified staff, theses UK citizens should be given priority instead.

My suggestion to the Health Education England and NHS is to help all doctors and nurses like myself living in UK as UK citizens, which I believe will be more than 500, and invite them to various medical training course, similar to what were designed during the COVID pandemic. As today, we not only need army to save our country but NHS staff. It is a shame when we have staff that are qualified, but just because they are not registered; they could not help us during such a big crisis. My appeal is to NHS  England is people like myself  be re-trained and prepared for crisis. Instead of requesting the retired doctors, who are at high risk to come and help. When these non-registered doctors, who could be completely hands on with just a little training and aid in saving us from unpredicted pandemics.
