No Mandatory Covid-19 Vaccines for Health Care Workers
AHS has just mandated that all employees, including physicians, staff, nurses, contract employees must get fully immunized against Covid-19. This will include staff employed by AHS, Alberta Precision Labs, Carewest, CapitalCare, Covenant Health, midwife staff, students, and volunteers. AHS has given employees until October 31, 2021.
This is a completely inappropriate step to take as personal healthcare should not be mandated by employers. It is a personal choice as to whether or not we vaccinate ourselves against this or any other virus/bacteria/et cetera.
I understand that many believe that this vaccine is a cure all; but it has been proven that even with an individual being fully immunized, this vaccine does not prevent infection or transmission to another individual.
AHS has stated that "employees who go against the policy and are not exempt will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. They are discussing a process, but it would include meeting with the employee, reviewing the case, discussing concerns with the employee and providing educational materials. Employees could also face an unpaid leave of absence if they don't comply."
Exemptions may come under the Alberta Human Rights Protected Grounds such as religious beliefs, color, gender, gender expression, physical disability, source of income, sexual orientation, et cetera.
