Have school psychologists present for students
Student psychologists in school should be mandatory. Many students, particularly in higher classes, struggle with declining mental health, and mental illnesses, such as severe depression and anxiety, and even suicidal thoughts and tendencies. The stress many students feel due to academic pressure further impacts their performance in school, and this sets off a chain of events that even further prevents them from getting better. Most students, even in an advanced area like Lahore, go undiagnosed and hence untreated due to not recognizing symptoms, or parents refusing to get them help. Many students dealing with family problems have no one to talk to either.
Having a licensed psychologist in school would help diagnose and treat many problems in students, and would provide coping mechanisms and solutions to their problems. Even if a student not suffering from a mental illness simply needs an objective ear to talk to about their problems, it would significantly impact their general well-being and performance in school. Studies have shown that schools with on-site therapists for students (at no unfeasible extra cost) tend to perform better, and be better students. These psychologists would provide consultations for students, and evaluate and provide solutions to their problems, and in cases, provide an expert's diagnosis for extra help. In case of familial and interpersonal problems interfering with school, they can also intervene. School psychologists are highly trained in both psychology and education to help children be successful academically, socially, and emotionally.
