As students of year one CAP, we are all entitled to a proper work space on Campus, one that we can have individual desks and the space to leave work untouched to return to whenever we need. Currently we only have a small shared space, one which we can't always access due to it being a teaching room and any work we produce has to be cleared up, materials taken home with us- there's not even space to put wet work. We've been given drawers but not all work can fit/ is dry enough to stay there. Other Year 1 students in different courses such as fine art have their own space and desk to work at and i feel that as we are paying the same fees we deserve to be given the same treatment and facilities they are. Currently it just seems like year 1 CAP is a second thought and not as important as other subjects and this specific matter of space is causing a lot of upset and lack of motivation to engage with the course. This issue has been brought up with lecturers and Head of course but they keep saying the same thing, that our space is that one small room- it feels as if they aren't even trying to understand our frustration. A space and desk where we can study and leave materials/work is in my mind the bare minimum and essential of studying at an art school. It's upsetting and quite frankly disappointing that this is even a matter of discussion- with all the fees we are paying, surely this should cover having at least a personal desk.
