At 1,500 signatures, this petition is more likely to get picked up by local news!

There has been recent media coverage about a proposed pop-up vaccination clinic that was to be held at Hollyburn Country Club (HCC) on April 26th. In response to an inquiry from CBC News, Ed McLaughlin, HCC CEO stated: "Hollyburn Country Club had partnered with a local pharmacy to provide vaccinations to our eligible front-line staff and had also explored making this available to eligible club members. Upon receiving advice from the health authority, we will not be providing this service through the club.".

We understand that an individual has started a petition asking for "the immediate removal of the CEO Ed McLaughlin by the Board of Directors and the resignation of any directors who were aware of and condoned this project". In response to this petition, we felt it was important to show our support for Ed McLaughlin, Club Executive and Board of Directors who supported this initiative.

In case you have not already read the communication sent to all HCC members Saturday April 24th, Ed McLaughlin wrote:

"Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, our focus at Hollyburn has been on protecting the health and safety of our community.

It was in that spirit that we consulted with the pharmacy that delivers our yearly flu vaccinations to schedule a vaccination clinic for staff who are eligible for the AstraZeneca vaccine (aged 40 and over). Our aim was to help increase protection for the frontline workers at our Club. When there were more vaccines available than staff who were eligible and who chose to participate, the decision was made to offer the remaining vaccines to eligible Members who had not yet received their first vaccine. Hollyburn offered no compensation to the pharmacist and no vaccines would have been offered to Members if the available vaccines had been fully used by staff.

While our intention was to do our utmost to protect the health and safety of our community, we cancelled the program in response to guidance from the health authority. Given the current environment in which everyone is anxious to receive a vaccine, we understand the concern that has been expressed about offering a clinic that is not available to the general public. We apologize for having organized the clinic without full consideration of this.

Throughout this pandemic, Hollyburn has consulted and worked closely with the health authority to ensure that we are following all COVID-19 protocols and best practices. We remain committed to this approach."

We believe that all decisions were made with the best intentions to support the HCC employees, with residual doses left over being made available to HCC members on a first-come, first-served basis.

At times like this, we feel it is important to speak up and show our support of the HCC team that has worked tirelessly and transparently throughout this pandemic. We encourage you to please sign the petition, and pass this along to those that would also like to show their support.

Thank you,

Carlota Lee & Dana Inman
