HBL is here to stay
HBL is here to stay
Why this petition matters
In the past semester, many of us have experienced HBL which are days were students conduct self directed learning at home. We have aware that the school is going to remove it. In light of this, I would like to gather general sentiments on the ground so as to propose to keep HBL days.
The following are our arguments:
As the tasks given on HBL day are self-directed, this enables students to take better charge of their own learning. The learning paces of students are diverse, hence HBL days are essential for students to consolidate their learning at their respective paces. Students can focus their efforts on their weaker subjects as compared to structured timetables during school days.
Furthermore, HBL is especially crucial for year 6 students in their last lap. As most of the syllabus has been taught, more time needs to be allocated for students to revise their content and do practice papers in their own time. While school aims to provide a conducive environment for students to revise, we must understand that some students prefer to study in alternative environment which may be more conducive for their learning.
Lastly, due to our packed schedules, we often don't have time to meet our teachers for consultation. HBL allows for more time students to look for their teachers and book consults. This can also help teachers to focus their efforts on helping the weaker students as compared to classroom teaching, where teachers have to cater to a diverse range of abilities.
