Recently a petition was made to remove a School Resource Officer (SRO) due to one opinion stated on social media regarding recent riots and looting as well as the attacks on law enforcement. It is important to note a few things:

1. Scotty retired from the Paterson Police Department after completing his years of service and protecting and serving his community to the very best of his ability. He also has several family members in law enforcement. 

2. While the petition to remove him showed one snapshot of a post, it failed to show several other posts where he not only promotes the end of racism but also admonished anyone who judges others by the color of their skin.

3. Scotty has been dedicated to the students and staff of HHS for many years. He would put his life on the line to protect any and all of them. 

4. He goes above and beyond for his students and has bought lunches for kids that didn’t have them, always supported all sports teams, and bought pizza for kids when they stayed after school working on projects. Any kid in that school was treated like they were HIS kid. 

There has never been a person more dedicated and loving to his town, his friends, his blue brothers and sisters, his alma matter, the teachers and staff, and most importantly, the KIDS not only in his school but in the town of Hawthorne.  Removing him from his position would be the biggest mistake this district could make.
