Theresa Kapaku started this petition to Hawaii Democratic Leadership

Aloha mai e Governor David Ige;

The below signed Hawai’i State voters implore you at this time NOT TO APPOINT Rep. Lynn DeCoite to Hawai’i State Senate.

As you were the individual who originally appointed Lynn, you are aware that by having a 2x appointed individual to higher positions negates democracy and supports nepotism.

It’s again time for you to act.  The National Task Force on Rule of Law & Democracy, convened by the Brennan Center for Justice, released a report, which provides gvt with a roadmap for protecting the political appointments process from further abuse.  The members come from both political parties and have either served as executives or in the executive branch, or both. We know government cannot succeed without personnel who are qualified and ethical.

Nepotism puts favoritism and privilege above fairness and merit. It also undermines the integrity of policymaking. YOU can respond by making clear that the prohibition on nepotism applies to appointments in the Hawai’i State House.

The records show conflict of interest.

While the rest of the world is banning it, Lynn is pro-GMO and has been a recipient of Bayer/Monsanto contracts.  She is also a recent and long time political donor to Kalani English's campaigns for office.

Additionally; Lynn barely won last years democratic primary election due to the public outcry for better leadership.

Again, we implore you to avoid appointment of Lynn, her controversial actions and potential liability to the state.

We request consideration of other qualified candidates; such as Walter Ritte, a leader and proven favorite among this District and statewide.

PS:::

Here’s a copy of the original petition 6 years ago to again; implore you to NOT appoint a pro-GMO to leadership in a non-GMO district. —————V

On behalf of our 39,000 supporters, and as believers in the Democratic Party, we feel it is necessary to express our concern regarding one of the candidates for the recently vacated district 13 seat, Mrs. Lynn DeCoite.

We have been aware for some time that L&R Farms, owned by Mrs. Decoite, is under contract with Monsanto to grow seed corn. Lynn herself confirmed this to our Maui Chapter Coordinator over an extensive phone conversation in March of last year; it is not something she is ashamed to admit. …

If Mrs. DeCoite is chosen by your committee to be on the short list given to the Governor, you will be sending him another political powder keg. This nomination would create an even larger firestorm of public criticism and discontent, than his highly contentious nomination of Carleton Ching to lead the Department of Land and Natural Resources.

It is no secret that the GMO issue is a political hot bed on both County and State levels. We feel that nominating a GMO Farmer to the position of State Representative, would be a political disaster and incite justifiable outrage.

Mahalo.
