By replacing paper towel dispensers in dorms and in public spaces, we as a community can reduce our economic costs and environmental impact. We envision students using hooks and cubbies to store their own towels in dorm bathrooms rather than using paper towels. This change would be surprisingly easy to implement, as a number of dorms already have some cubbies and hooks installed. Halls would still have access to paper towels in the case of spills, but by eliminating dispensers in bathrooms, we hope to cut back on paper towel usage. Additionally, we envision public bathrooms containing eco-friendly air dryers instead of paper towels, which could save Haverford thousands of dollars per year and reduce our hand-drying carbon footprint by as much as 80%. We hope to remove paper towel dispensers from dorms by Fall 2012 and from public spaces by Fall 2013.
