Bring back Hartlepool's Sea Coalers!!!!
This petition made change with 291 supporters!
'Sea-coaling' has taken place in Hartlepool, County Durham, for centuries.
Workmen painstakingly harvest tonnes of coal from Seaton Carew beach.
Modified Land Rovers are used to transport their hauls. Only 19 people keep up the ancient trade, which helps fuel power stations.
But last week Hartlepool Council closed the beach to vehicles, making it impossible for sea-coaling to continue.
As a result of Hartlepool Borough Council's actions:
- Honest men's jobs have been taken away in a time where its already hard enough to find work.
- An ancient trade is being abolished.
- Our beach is going to be oversaturated with sea coal.
I urge people to support this case which is something that is close to myself & my family but also the community within Hartlepool.
With enough signatures, I hope the council may reconsider their decision and allow access back to the beach - by doing so, reinstating good mens jobs!!!
