With the beginning of the spring athletic season, many high school students have decided to self-quarantine in an effort (in most cases, team-wide) to avoid being exposed to Covid cases in school. Most teams made the decision to continue school online for a mere first week of the season.

Prior to this decision, the Hartland School’s superintendent advised students to self-quarantine upon their first week back to school (following spring break) to avoid an inevitable spike in cases. This advice was quickly challenged by high school teachers, administrators, and athletic directors alike.

Now, student athletes are being forced to return to in-person learning for the remainder of the season. They are also subject to routine Rapid Tests. These Rapid Tests are destined to put entire teams in quarantine due to their inaccuracy, forcing them to lose out on a two-week period of training and games.

The double standard observed by athletes competing in spring sports in comparison to their winter sport counterparts (who were allowed to self-quarantine throughout various segments of their season) has been deemed utterly unjust.

Please sign this petition to push for an equal opportunity to continue spring sports for ALL athletes at Hartland High school.
