Why this petition matters

Started by Yolanda Ortiz

Every day, 96 Americans are killed with guns and hundreds more are shot and injured. The effects of gun violence extend far beyond these casualties—gun violence shapes the lives of millions of Americans who witness it, know someone who was shot, or live in fear of the next shooting. On March 17,2017 my son Keon Huff Jr was shot in the head and left to die. He was on the third floor hallway in a building where there were no cameras. Everyone in the hallway at that time had a meeting before the death of my son planning on how the killing would take place. The perpetrators planned it all out and they executed the plan. After my son was shot in the head his last words were damn you shot me.  When the cops came to me they informed me that my son was hanging on the door like he was trying to run for his life. We all know someone who was killed. It's become normal for some of our youth to see their friends die every other week. The easiest way to get away with murder is to say it was an accident and the gun went off. The killer took the time to point the gun to other boys who were also in the hallway. The killer than threatened one of my sons good friends to pick up the shell casing or he to will be dead. After my son was shot in the head they all ran out the building at 393 Garden St in Hartford Ct and threw the stolen gun away. None of the boys thought about calling the cops. My son did not deserve to die from the hands of someone else. No ones child deserves to die such heinous and cold murder. I'm speaking for all the mothers who had to bury their children. I'm speaking for the mothers who's children were murdered and they don't have any information on the killers/killer. If we work together and demand that these landlords and property managers get cameras in their hallways we would be able to see what really goes on in these high crime area hallways. Hallways are an easy target for the victims. People die everyday in hallways. Stopping gun violence one hallway at a time. Please help keep kids safe so that another mom won't have to bury her child.
