Concerned Parents of Harrison started this petition to Harrison Central School District - Board of Education

The Harrison CSD Board of Education unveiled its reopening plan for a hybrid learning model at the start of the 20/21 school year.  The plan was built around the principle of  "Assess, Adapt, and Adjust".  After 6 weeks of implementation and numerous conversations with administrators, it is clear there is no path for further reopening.

This puts our children at a severe disadvantage in several ways:

  • Inability to cover the full curriculum - given the plan's structure, it only allows for 40-50% of what should be covered in any given year
  • The quality of our children's education is suffering with only 2 days in class and limited interaction with teachers the other 3 virtual days (60%).  Furthermore, parents do not have the required tools and guidance to adequately supplement/support classroom instruction
  • The lack of in-person social interaction (with teachers and classmates) is detrimental to our children's social-emotional development (which is critical at the elementary level)

Now is the time for the Harrison BOE to step-up and fulfill its commitment to our children.   We urge the district to finish the reopening efforts IN PARTNERSHIP with parents.  The district has the resources to do this in a manner that keeps health and safety as a top priority.

Please support this petition in two ways:

1. Sign the petition – urging the Harrison BOE to fully reopen to 5 days per week of in-class learning.
2. Attend the Harrison BOE meeting on October 14th at 8:15pm at LMK to make your voice heard.

Let’s push the BOE to follow through on its core principle of adapting and adjusting.  Finish the reopening to fully phase-in 5 days per week of in-class learning.  Other districts and private schools are proving this can work.

Our children deserve more.
