Petition to Harris County M.U.D. #530

We, the residents of Harris County M.U.D. #530, have been dealing with flooding for 2 years. We are angry, frustrated, scared, and tired of what might happen anytime there is a storm or simple heavy rain. Despite this being a problem for a few years, our community continues to have major flooding issues. Any steps that have been taken are clearly not enough to protect the people of our community.
We “dodged a bullet” during Harvey, a few home owners did have some water damage, but it could have been much worse given how high the water was during the storm. Another concern is the fact that the ponds were built to ultimate size/capacity but the neighborhood is only half developed. During Harvey, a lot of water was being retained in the lower natural ground areas. Now, a lot of those areas are being filled in and developed with concrete. Also, we were locked in our neighborhood for 5-6 days after Harvey went through because the water did not drain.
This is completely unacceptable to us.
Respectfully,

The residents of Harris County M.U.D. #530.

The following are reasons to sign the petition:
We need to remind the M.U.D. #530 board of the urgency of this issue. We send our children to local schools, use community amenities and reside in M.U.D. #530 and continue to live in fear of flooding. This issue is a priority that needs to be addressed as soon as possible.
This issue is a WHOLE neighborhood problem. If you are in the sections that flood, you are very aware of how devastating and costly this problem is. If you have not experienced flooding, you most likely know someone that has. All of us will have to deal with the reputation of a neighborhood that floods. This can affect property values, difficulty in selling our homes or people just having an overall negative view of this community.
The developer has raised the natural ground elevations 3-5 feet above the natural ground.
We should not have to live in constant fear or worry about flooding every time we have an average heavy rainfall.
We should not have to fear the values of our property declining or difficulty selling our homes due to flooding and drainage issues.
