Stop the 13.28 Acre Storage Facility on Fancher Road

0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!

An application to rezone 13.28 acres on Fancher Road from Agricultural Residential to a Planned Commercial District has passed the zoning commission review and has been submitted to the Harlem Township Trustees for approval.

Not only will this proposed storage facility not fit within the values of Harlem Township, but property values will likely be negatively affected if the facility is built.

Protect the rural character and property values of Harlem Township by signing this petition asking the Harlem Township Board of Trustees to deny the rezoning application.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

A 132,000 square foot 500-unit self-storage facility will be built on Fancher Road near Harlem Road if the zoning change is approved.

Construction will begin upon approval and will continue indefinitely based on demand.

The facility would have both enclosed storage and outdoor storage for boats and RVs.

Hours of operation would be 7:00 AM until 9:00 PM.

The facility will NOT be staffed.

Access to the facility will be through a gate controlled by an electronic keypad.

The facility would increase traffic at the intersections of Fancher Road and Harlem Road as well as Fancher Road and State Route 605.

The facility will NOT bring individuals invested in the community to the area as only 30% of self-storage renters plan on renting for longer than a year. (Self Storage Association).

The facility will NOT provide community services to the majority of Harlem Township residents as only 9% of US Households require self-storage (Self Storage Association).

Harlem Township homeowners in the area will likely see a drop in their property value.

Storage facilities are targets for crime.
The facility does not bring jobs to the community as it is not a staffed facility.

A public hearing will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at 7:15 PM at the Harlem Township Hall (3883 S. State Route 605, Galena). At this time the Board of Trustees will consider public feedback prior to voting whether to approve or deny the rezoning application
