Haringey Council have recently announced the Tangmere and Northolt blocks on the Broadwater Farm Estate are going to be decanted, because they fail to meet the minimum required standard for structural strength.
On Tuesday 26th June 2018, Haringey Council cabinet will meet to discuss the decanting of residents and begin making decisions on the future of these blocks. Residents on the estate are being asked to take part in a ‘consultation’ to decide whether the blocks should be strengthened and refurbished or demolished and rebuilt. Haringey have announced that their ‘preferred option’ is demolition.
At the time of writing this, Haringey Council still have not publicly released the structural assessment reports for the blocks which led to the decision to decant these two blocks. Residents are being asked to make a choice on the future of the blocks without seeing any evidence.
In March 2018, Ledbury Action Group submitted a Freedom of Information Request to Haringey Council asking for these documents. The request was refused as Haringey Council said that the reports were still in ‘draft form’ - but would be published on their website as soon as they were finalised. This has not happened.
We are asking that Haringey Council, in the interests of transparency, immediately release and publish the structural reports for Broadwater Farm.
