In 1969, after decades of effort and multiple Supreme Court cases, Lee Davis High School became fully racially integrated. This marks a time of great change for not only the Commonwealth of Virginia but also for Hanover County, and it is certainly worth remembering. Recently, the Hanover County School Board voted to change the name and mascot of Lee Davis High School, and it only seems fitting that the if the Rebels are on their way out, the 69ers ought to be on their way in. Let us always remember that momentous year in LDHS history by commemorating it with the change of the schools mascot to the 69ers.
