Shocked, anxious and frightened, the residents in the Lower Sirhowy Valley are in despair that their concerns over the judgement by the Planning Inspectorate to grant a licence to Hazrem Environmental Ltd for a Waste Recycling plant have been completely ignored.

This decision can only have a negative effect on the future for the inhabitants of this former mining community, which is already in the top 10% of deprived areas in Wales and in the top 6% where Cancer is a significant health issue.

Approving a licence for this plant that even those supporting this development have acknowledged will increase both NO2. and NOx in the atmosphere, benefits no one other than those who will gain financially.  At the same time, in the knowledge that this action will add up to further hundred, forty two tonne lorries a day to a narrow and constricted road system where pollution levels already hover close to the current safe maximums, is nothing short of immoral.

For people living in the Valley, and particularly the many whose properties are just feet away from the only road in and out, this seems a case of ‘we just don’t matter’ and is an affront to the notion that our needs or futures played any part in the decision that was taken.

We have been betrayed by those whose role it is to defend us and failed by the systems that are supposed to protect us, and we now need your help to get our voices heard.

Please sign this petition as we urge Politicians and decision makers to reverse this judgement and find a more appropriate, environmentally suitable and safe site for this plant to be constructed.
