Support safer bus stops in Atlanta and surrounding areas

Many of our hard working voters in the community use MARTA as an option for means of transportation, and for some it is the only mode of transportation. Data shows that MARTA services 1.7 million in the City of Atlanta, Fulton, and DeKalb Counties. Though MARTA services this many citizens, it appears that MARTA and our Representatives have failed to ensure the safety of those who are provided service.

On May 24, 2016 Andrew Tarae Woods, a loving son of Andrew and Deborah Woods, and a friend to many, life was tragically taken at the young age of 30 years old due to being hit by a car. Andrew had just gotten off of a MARTA bus from a long day of work. His loss has affected so many who were close to him and the pain of knowing that it could have possibly been prevented brings much more sorrow. Upon inspection of the area one can see that there are not any lights, and the one light that they do have is very dimly lit. The bus stops in the area have no resting area for those waiting on the bus, no sidewalks, and when citizens get on and off of the MARTA they are stepping in the grass. These conditions alone do not provide safe circumstances for the citizens in your community. After surveying many areas in the community, it has been found that there are several bus stops that are not safe for our fellow citizens.

If you have a loved one who uses MARTA as a means of transportation this affects you as well. Imagine if that was your daughter, son, mother, father, or any loved one for that matter?

We pose the question of what safety processes does MARTA take into consideration when assigning bus stops, and how does our State Representative ensure that the citizens of his community is safe as well. Though we cannot bring Andrew back, we want to ensure that the lives of others can be spared.
