Hank Dunn has continually made bad decisions in regards to whether classes will be held or not due to inclement weather. Every other school in the area is closed, even Asheville High School which is next door to the college, yet Hank Dunn only announces a 2 hour late start. UNCA is closed yet many of their students live on campus. Ab-Tech consists of all commuter students not to mention many area also parents including myself. When every other school is closed and a parent has no childcare, how can they attend their classes?? When the DOT has specifically stated that it is not safe to be on the roads, yet Ab-Tech still holds classes, is when I start to question whether Hank Dunn see's his students as students, or CUSTOMERS! Multiple programs at Ab-Tech have a strict attendance policy and Dunn expects students to "make their own judgement as to whether it is safe for them to travel to school or not which puts students in a tough spot. Risk getting in a wreck to make it to class that SHOULD be cancelled, or miss class and run the risk of being dropped from the specific program. In my case, I am struggling to keep up in my course, so anytime there is class especially with an exam next week, I NEED to be there so that an absence does not affect my grade by missing useful information and or work. I started this petition because Hank Dunn needs to consider his students safety/school work more important.
