The City of Hampton, VA, home of NASA Langley Research Center where the early Space Age astronauts trained, recently voted to change the name of Magruder Blvd, which runs by the Langley campus, to Neil Armstrong Blvd. Armstrong, along with the other Mercury, Gemini and Apollo astronauts have numerous sites dedicated to their memory (including bridges throughout the city of Hampton and Mercury Blvd, the city’s main thoroughfare.)

   We propose renaming Magruder Blvd. in memory of Katherine Johnson, the acclaimed yet modest NASA mathematician who was one of the “Hidden Figures” whose calculations made the space flights of John Glenn and subsequent astronauts possible.
