Why this petition matters

Started by Pat Pittman

A survey was started on June 24, 2020 to create an entrance/exit for the proposed town homes to be located on the vacant property on 1020-1022 Big Bethel Road across from Liberty Baptist Church.

Permission was not granted for an entrance from Big Bethel Road into the proposed multi-residential complex, so now the owner, Franciscus at Watermark LLC in Virginia Beach, has had the property surveyed at Royce Drive and also at Berkshire Terrace which are currently dead-end streets. The company wants to go through the neighborhood to access Northampton Drive and then Todds Lane. The only access to Todds Lane from there are Northampton; Patrician; Winchester and Hunt Club.

As I understand it, there would be 19 buildings with 5 units per building (95 units total).

Another problem with this besides all the traffic coming and going is there is a group of flying squirrels, which is an endangered species, along with two mother ducks and 8 baby ducklings and 15 older ducklings that live in the woods off of Berkshire Terrace on the property described above.  A fox also inhabits the property with baby foxes.

Pictures are available of the dead-end on Royce Drive. Videos are also available of the animals in question on the property at 855 Berkshire Terrace.
