Elle Dunkirk started this petition to Hampton Bays School District

Basketball players and wrestlers at Hampton Bays High School are losing the right to share the games they love with their friends and family. Each player is only allowed to have two spectators per game, and for smaller teams, this means only having 16 fans in the stands. District claims that the reason behind this is “state mandate”, however neighboring towns including Mattituck and Southampton don’t have any spectator restrictions. Just one month ago during volleyball season there were no spectator limits. In the entire month of November, Hampton Bays High School only had 4 covid cases in total. According to state law, if you are within 3 feet of another person, masks are required. I’m sure that if students were given the opportunity to attend games, they would be compliant with the mask mandate. Especially for seniors, not being able to attend games during their last year of high school extremely upsetting and takes away one of the main things they were looking forward to during quarantine. Taking away spectators is taking away the livelihood of players.
