Ask Hampshire County Council to divest from fossil fuels
0 have signed. Let’s get to 100!
After Greenpeace Portsmouth did a FOI request to Hampshire County Council which asked if the Hampshire Pension Fund had any investments in fossil fuels, they answered this with confirmation that they did have investments in fossil fuels for the pension fund. This pension fund is used by all councils, including city councils in Hampshire and so the figure invested is likely to be quite large.
We are calling on them to completely divest from fossil fuels in accordance with the goals of the UK Govt which is signed up to the 2015 Paris Agreement to keep global warming below 2C.
Climate change is the most pressing issue of our time with experts claiming we have but 3 years to stop dangerous climate change. The effects of 'dangerous' climate change include mass migrations across the globe, food and water shortages, an increase in wars, extreme weather events and rising sea levels. The UN states that hundreds of thousands of people are killed every year as a result of climate change and thousands of species of animals are also being wiped out by the climate crisis.
