This petition is asking Hampshire County Council to implement a minimum of one safe crossing place on Braishfield road between the Abbotswood and Braishfield road roundabouts. Currently there is no safe place to cross. During the winter months when it becomes darker earlier the need is more evident. With the very near completion of the Kings Chase development (275 houses and a sports complex), plans for more housing within the area and the pathway to Hilliers, all add to an increase of pedestrians crossing this formally quiet stretch of road.
When trying to cross near the Braishfield road roundabout the visibility is poor and driving speeds appear to be high. We fully support the council’s goal to increase walking routes within our area but feel to support this where we have areas of increased housing and therefore an increased population, we need to treat accident prevention measures seriously. As the local clubs are opening including but not limited to the scouts and running clubs there are more people using the road to cross over all through the day and evening. Our own experience and others is that we feel unsafe crossing the road.
