Save London's only domestic violence shelter for gay and bisexual men

A 2011 Stonewall survey found that half the men surveyed had experienced at least one incident of domestic violence from a partner or family member since the age of 16.
Yet London's only domestic violence shelter for gay and bisexual men is at risk of closure by Hammersmith and Fulham Council. The council is reviewing the residential shelter's contract, which ends in June, and closure is a possibility.
This would leave the nearest shelter accepting men in Berkshire, with many men fleeing domestic violence being sent as far as Wales for specialist support. It is vital that Hammersmith and Fulham council do not close the shelter and further endanger those who suffer domestic abuse.
Domestic abuse in the LGBT community is a drastically under-reported issue. Yet there is virtually no housing provision for LGBT survivors of domestic abuse in the UK. According to Stonewall Housing, this lack of resources will lead to increases in homelessness, suicide, self-harm and poor mental health which are already disproportionately prevalent in the LGBT community.
We urge Hammersmith and Fulham Council not to close this vital refuge for survivors of domestic abuse.
