It has recently come to my attention, that there is a board wide policy to NOT salt and or plow the playgrounds of the schools in the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board. This is extremely unsafe, and in my opinion negligent on the school boards part, in keeping our children safe. Recently my daughter broke her collar bone slipping on ice, and in further investigation I have found this to be a common problem amongst all schools in the public board in Hamilton. The catholic board does not seem to hold the same policy, and in turn, their children are able to play safely, and without harm due to ice during their school days. To ignore this issue, and continue to allow these children to be hurt over and over by something that could so easily be resolved just to save a little money on salt and snow removal is unacceptable and puts into perspective exactly where the priorities lay within the board. This needs to be addressed, and future injuries need to be prevented.
