Halt The Development
Why this petition matters
STOP THE DESTRUCTION OF THE HABITAT BEFORE and THE INCREASE IN TRAFFIC BEFORE THE SALE OF THE 58 ACRE PROPERTY DEVELOPMENT IS FINALIZED!
We are residents and friends of Echo Lake Community in South Snohomish County, a part of Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue (SRF&R). We are opposing the sale of 58 acres of natural habitat on steep, wooded terrain, which the fire district currently calls “a training facility.” [1]
· These 58 acres are natural environment for heritage trees, wetlands access, and wildlife habitat. Large mammals migrate from here to the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) easement and the Paradise Valley Conservation Area.
· The available Rural Cluster Subdivision Conceptual Site Plan indicates that this acreage is designated for sale to a home developer for as many as 17 lots. That number of homes is far more than the zoning tolerance for Snohomish County as a Rural–5-acre (R-5) area.
· The entrance and egress for the proposed new homes is to be at 204th St. SE and Echo Lake Road. This intersection has a traffic volume of more than 8,000 vehicles daily and is the sole access to SR 522 for more than 3800 residents in 1550 homes.
We oppose any new housing development on these parcels and will work to protect the natural environment that currently exists.
