Hello Mineola Middle School parents!  

As a parent of a still nine year old 5th grade boy I was recently saddened to learn that our Elementary Education Level children (being educated in a Middle School Building) are not allowed to wear Halloween Costumes during the school day on Halloween.  

To those of you saying "Am I seriously looking at a petition to allow Halloween Costumes in school?" Yep! 

To those of you saying "Does this woman not realize there are dozens of other far more important issues that need to be addressed, in and out of school?" Also YES. 

To anyone saying "Did this woman just reach for the low hanging fruit here because she has decided to do what she can with minimal effort but perhaps our kiddos will have one more year of costume fun as a result of it so heck yes why not sign?" You're my kind of people and let's grab a drink one night.

In the meantime, I'm told that the Administration has responded to prior requests similar in nature by saying not enough parents have inquired.  Some of us have griped here and there about this but let's band together and actually try to set the wheels in motion for at least a CONVERSATION about it.  I'd love for my kiddo to have one more celebration during the day before they are all a thing of the past.  These kids will be of an age soon where they are too cool for costumes (some may already be, but judging by the participation at the 4th grade "50's" dance many are not!), but maybe we can at least try to embrace it a little longer! 

Not looking for any change in rules (no face masks, no weapons, costumes with taste, etc.) but just perpetuating the spirit of the day for the kids no longer in our Elementary buildings.

I'm also open to constructive feedback or open dialogue here!  If there are cons, let's hear 'em!
