While squishmallows may just seem like a trend among younger people, it has sparked an entire community dedicated to buying, trading, and collecting many different varieties of squishmallows. It has brought many people together and has become something more than just a trend, and many people spend countless hours negotiating with and talking to fellow collectors. Hallmark and Walgreens have always been two of the top suppliers for new squishmallows, although most stores have recently they have decided to remove the purchase limit of 4 per customer. While this may seem like a good business strategy to generate more income, it has unintentionally hurt the community. With such a big emergence of this community, it has attracted the attention of individuals who want to exploit it for their own gain. It has recently become a major problem where people go to these stores right when they restock and purchase large quantities of desirable squishmallows with the intention of reselling them at a tremendous markup. This prevents the true collectors from getting new squishmallows they want without paying a substantial premium and supporting resellers. We propose that stores such as Hallmark and Walgreens that don't have a purchasing limit to add or reinstate that limit so that it gives the true squishmallow enthusiasts an opportunity to purchase what they want and reducing the amount that are purchased by resellers. With how popular squishmallows have become, It will not likely hurt business since even with the limit most products will end up selling very fast anyways. We hope this message spreads and we can bring some positive change for our community.
