Why this petition matters

Re: "When Calls the Heart" a Hallmark channel program based on "The Canadian West" series by Janice Oke set in Canada 1919 about a school teacher who falls in love with a Canadian Mountie. Hearties were blindsided at the season 8 finale when John Tinker, "new" program story runner pulled a last minute bait and switch on fans by pairing the main character Elizabeth Thacher, widowed school teacher and mother who lost her Mountie husband in a tragic accident 2 years prior, with a saloon owner, a decision we believe doesn't stay true to the story's character. For months, loyal fans tuned in to watch the love triangle between her, a saloon owner and a Mountie named Nathan. We watched hopeful as the story line led viewers through relationships that had us on edge over who she would choose by seasons end. There was no doubt in the minds of Hearties that the show would stay true to the story line by choosing Mountie Nathan but this was not to be the case. At the last minute, Tinker ignored what viewers wanted by taking a risk that turned out to be a disaster for fans. We are asking that he back out of this decision in the next show by changing the outcome to the Mountie romance that was originally intended.
