Educate kids on racism by adding it to the school curriculum

I am a student in grade 8 with a goal to educate the young about racism for a better future. My English teacher has decided to teach us about racism while meeting the outcomes for our unit and has given the class an assignment to create an action plan to fight racism. I didn't know what to do until I found this website and decided to take it a step further and start a petition to add a racism unit to the school curriculum. If we begin to teach students at elementary levels to treat all as equal, we can highly reduce the number of racist events that occur in the years to come.

Canada's prime minister Justin Trudeau has declared in January of 2018 that the Government of Canada will officially recognize the International Decade for People of African Decent 2015-2024. With that said, it is a decade of change. And I believe that these changes must be made. I believe that one of the most reachable steps towards a country of equality and would be to teach our next generation of Canadians about what is right. That no matter what color of skin, culture, religion, gender identity, or sexual orientation you associate with, you will be respected. If racism is brought up the same way schools bring up how serious bullying is, we can prevent hate crimes, discrimination, you name it. That is why I think a unit on racism should be added to the school curriculum.

Lot's of children everywhere barely even know that racism is still going on today. If we educate them about it, they will know that it's wrong and will also gain the courage to stand up to it themselves.
