A large volume of Southwold pupils approach the school from Millfields Park, including a number of younger unaccompanied children.

Children need to cross Southwold Road, and cars and motorbikes frequently travel beyond the speed limit taking advantage of the long, straight road.

The junction with Theydon Road makes it harder, as vehicles are turning where children need to cross.

With no zebra crossing, children are exposed to unnecessary risks, and near misses are reported each term.

Some years ago a crossing was implemented on Theydon Road to address the risk for children approaching school from the north east, but the children approaching from the southern part of the catchment area are still at risk. 

Many children who do not approach school from the south nevertheless cross to the park after school to reach the playground.

We would like a safe crossing for children travelling between school and the park.
