Stop Hackney's cuts to Council Tax Support

Hackney Council are proposing to increase the minimum payment of Council Tax for people on the lowest incomes.
We the undersigned are opposed to Hackney Council’s proposal to make further cuts to Council Tax Support (CTS) for thousands of the borough’s poorest residents.
Hackney’s current 15 per cent ‘Minimum Payment’ is already causing serious financial hardship to unemployed and disabled residents living in poverty as a result of the Government’s cuts to Social Security, which is why so many are in arrears and face enforcement action.
We understand that the Government’s funding cuts have placed Hackney in a difficult position but feel strongly that our boroughs poorest residents shouldn’t be made to bear the burden.
We call on the Mayor and councillors to reject the proposed increased 20 per cent charge, and instead introduce a proper hardship fund for those struggling to pay and follow the lead of those other London boroughs who do not use bailiffs against CTS claimants.
