HLPUSD: BRING BACK MR. SHOUSE & MR. LIMON TO WILLIAM WORKMAN HIGH SCHOOL!

WE -- from community leaders, boosters parents, students, alumni, families and friends -- have been informed that the Hacienda-La Puente Unified School District AND William Workman High School Administration have decided to "let go" one of our beloved Workman band directors, Mr. Burke Shouse, forcing our long-standing and beloved Band Director, Mr. Maurice Limon to resign.

Mr. Limon's decision was based on the circumstances that arose at Workman High School; according to the Hacienda-La Puente Unified School District administration the school is "losing" enrollments. As a consequence, they chose to not hire back his dearest friend AND our beloved band director, Mr. Burke Shouse.

The issue had been brought up in April, and by May both band directors had thought it had been sorted out,  and were PROMISED that both of their jobs were SAFE and to continue planning for the 2018/19 School Year. Then yesterday, after they had spent their afternoon auditioning middle-school band directors, that promise was RENEGED. The conditions that the Hacienda-La Puente Unified School District AND Workman High School administrations were made aware of in April was that if they chose to get rid of Mr. Shouse, that they would need to be prepared for Mr. Limon's immediate resignation. Yesterday, Monday, June 18th, they did what they did and thus Mr. Limon had to do what he had to do.

This decision made by Mr. Limon was not easy, but he has been prepared to make it since May. Mr. Limon and Mr. Shouse have built something truly special and unique at Workman High School. It has been Mr. Limon's home for 8 years, his first and ONLY teaching assignment. Our kids work harder than any he has ever witnessed in his life. It is the best kept secret in the San Gabriel Valley, probably even California! These kids can literally do anything. It took 8 years to build what they had and in one foul swoop the HLPUSD and Workman High School administrations decided to cut it in half! We have dealt with set backs before at Workman High School. Our students and staff are resilient, but this was the straw that broke the camel's back. Mr. Limon is not strong enough to watch this amazing and award-wininng musical mecca be systematically dismantled. This has quite literally been Mr. Limon's life's work. He and Mr. Shouse have sacrificed family, health, and their sanity for our students and it has all been worth it to them.....until now.

This is very unfortunate and downright upsetting to see happen! This is a huge disservice to the children AND families of this community. The school district has failed to see the negative impact that will be seen in the near future with the loss of both band directors. Shame on you, Hacienda-La Puente Unified School District & Workman High School Administrations for crushing the spirit and aspirations of the students, who are already challenged by the socioeconomic status of this community!  Just remember, they won't forget about this, neither will we, especially when voting season comes around.

Please help us bring them both back to the award-winning Workman Arts & Entertainment Academy! Between Mr. Limon and Mr. Shouse, these children learned HOW to express themselves and be able to participate in activities these last 8 years. We understand that other extracurricular and academic activities at Workman High School are important, BUT music is an essential element to a child's learning and development. Studies have proven this!

Please sign this petition and help our future's voices be heard, not silenced. Share this with everyone you know!  Call the Hacienda-La Puente School District! Call the Workman High School Principal! Contact the local news outlets! Contact the newspapers! Let everyone know of this bad decision by the school district and school administration!

Thank you for your time and consideration.
