Chansa Kalunga started this petition to H.E. Hakainde Hichilema (President Of The Republic Of Zambia)

In a modern-day Zambia that has become inundated with western influence, ideals, and sensibilities, it is absolutely imperative for Zambians to begin to re-embrace our heritage and identity.

In that regard, what is more inherent to us than our names? There is a power in their roots and their meanings and for as long as we continue to perpetuate the use of colonial names for our national treasures, we cannot then claim to be truly independent.

There is a power to taking ownership of one’s identity and heritage. Whether on a spiritual or philosophical level, our names define us and give us our power. What could be more powerful than reverting the fourth natural wonder of the world to it’s original, indigenous name of the “Mosi-oa-tunya”, the “Smoke that thunders”?

This is a change that our people need.
