Why this petition matters

Started by Jeffrey Williams

Your teachers have gone out of their comfort zones, beyond the call of duty, and worked longer hours than normal to ensure student success during DLDs. They have adapted to your ever-changing policies and procedures and found ways to not only reach students but also teach students. They have emailed parents/guardians and documented. Called parents/ guardians and documented. They have reached out to counselors and documented. They have created digital lessons from scratch. They have held live help sessions 2 hours/day via Google Meet as required...in addition to “attending” curriculum meetings and faculty meetings via Google Meet. They have provided their students with “instant access” from 8am-3pm. And somewhere in there, they’ve had to grade assignments. Rinse, repeat.

With all you’ve thrown at them, they have more than risen to the occasion. They have done all you’ve asked of them and then some. Most are working longer hours now than before. All this to say: GCPS, it’s high time you treat your employees as the professionals they are—honor their time and their health and the health of their families. Enough playing  “Scorpion to the Frog.”
