Jack Metzger started this petition to GW Administrators

GW's athletes are some of its most visible representatives of the university's values and mission. We are most visible when practicing on campus, across Washington, DC, and around the country and across the globe for competition. Traveling to practice and competition is absolutely key for our athletes; however, this travel does come at a cost.

According to the EPA, 29% of the US's C02 emissions in 2017 came from transportation alone. As evidenced by the increased frequency of extreme weather events, warming climates, and rising sea levels worldwide, the time to act and lessen our emissions is now.

By enacting a carbon offset program, GW athletics would invest funds into carbon-sequestering activities, like replanting trees, and effectively reduce the net carbon footprint we create through traveling to competition and practice.

By signing this petition, you add your name to a list of those who support the idea that GW athletics should engage in a carbon offset project with the goal of eventually reaching net-carbon neutrality, and in doing so, open the door to greater consciousness on sustainability across campus, DC, the country, and the world.
