About the university:
Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), an affiliating-cum-teaching university has been established by Govt. of NCT of Delhi under the provisions of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University Act, 1998. The University is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), India under Section 2 (f) and 12 (b) of the UGC Act. The University was graded as 'A' by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore on March 31, 2007 for a period of 5 years.
This petition is concerned with the inappropriate academic calendar of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU).
The current academic calendar spoils holidays and harms the possible chances of learning and gaining experience because of extreme lack of time. This has been happening since the early inception of the university.
Even this year, holidays for odd semesters were for 10 days only. With exams ending on January 4, spoiling New Year, Christmas and internship/training/learning chances for many.
Even semesters ended on June 17, 2013, providing holidays for 44 days only. 44 days are never enough. Never.
With this, the university wants students to complete projects for to receive credits in next semesters starting after the summer holidays. This lands students with clear state of mind as to not try for any internship but instead go for a so called training. Though, the time isn't even enough for training itself but with credits and the mere time that we have in mind, this seems to be the only possible option.
Comparing this to other Institutions in India.
Delhi Technological University -- Exams ended on November 29 and May 31
IITs -- Exams ended before mid-November and mid-May.
NITs -- Same as IITs.
In every country, at least in India, almost all companies hire for interns for no less than 60 days. We accept that some do. But most don't.
In all, we demand a better academic calendar providing us with even semester and odd semester holidays for at least 60 and 30 days, respectively.

What petitioners are saying:
Ishan K. says “We want holistic development not just bookish knowledge. Give us ample of time to implement what we learn”
Abhishek S. says “We need more time for completing our project and prepare for the competitive exams like GATE, CAT, etc.”
Ayush O. says “Killing summer and biting cold and we have our exams while all other universities have their semester exams finished.”
Amandeep S. says “This is of ultimate importance to all the students including me. The current schedule robs us of all opportunities that exist for Internships/Projects/Competitions. I strongly urge this be considered immediately.”
Mitul H. says “Very important topic has been raised. It needs prior attention”
Shubhita G. says “Its [university’s] illogical schedule not only is it creating issues for it[s] own students and demarking its own image but it’s also becoming incompetent on a national level.”
Sanchita A. believes “This [the petition] will be a very important factor which will decide my future and scope of my degree as well.”
Ankur G. brings us to conclusion “My 3rd year just ended, and I have faced lot of troubles with this sort of schedule during my internships. Last year and even this year, I had to convince a lot to get accepted; even lost a golden offer from one startup because they needed at least 3 months commitment.
The academic calendar is totally weird and takes away the scope of all opportunities.
No wonder why most of IPians are even rejected in companies like TCS, Wipro, Infosys etc.”
Kshitiz G. suggests “It would be better if the scenario of all the internals is scheduled about 5 weeks apart instead of 6. This will provide us with about additional 20 days after the semesters.”
